Coach Mentoring

I begin this page with advocacy. The best way to learn to coach is to be coached. If you want to coach others, and you don’t have a coach, find one. Here’s why.

First, being coached furthers our own development as humans. Simply put, we bring more to the table.

Second, being coached enables us to know intimately the territory of change, resistance, and expanded possibilities. Without this deep understanding, we are unfamiliar with the landscape through which we propose to lead our clients.

Third, having a mentor coach is an invaluable asset for second opinions, new perspectives and fresh approaches as you coach your own clients. A mentor will both support your coaching, and integrate your professional work into your learning and development as a person.

Mentor Coaching Services

I provide mentoring support for other coaches at all stages of learning. Mentor coaching always includes a focus on developing yourself as a whole person.

Depending on your goals and experience, mentor coaching may also include any or all of the following:

  • Improving business systems, marketing, and business development.
  • Learning to embody what you espouse as a coach.
  • Support on methodology and tools to use with your own coaching clients.
  • Participation in Art of Mindful Coaching retreats to learn the Septet methodology.
  • Working with your coaching style and blind spots using the Septet assessment including 180 degree feedback from clients if desired.
  • Review of audio tapes, or live “shadow” coaching.

As in any coaching I do, we’ll begin with a conversation to explore your needs and the fit with my approach. If we both choose to move forward, we’ll develop very specific, observable outcomes around which our coaching program will be built.

Of course, in a mentor relationship, your coaching outcomes will be designed around coaching effectiveness and coaching-related development. Other than that, the process through which I coach you is very similar to that described in my letter to clients.

Mentor Coaching for ICF Certification

As a PCC, I provide mentor coaching to meet the certification requirement for the PCC level. This service includes an intake conversation, 10 hours of mentor coaching around your coaching skills, review and feedback on two recorded coaching conversations, and provision of documentation for your ICF application.

Please contact me to discuss your needs.

Considerable rigor and discipline of practice is required before we can authentically claim to be coaching intuitively rather than naively. We must know what we stand for, what we represent, and, in very concrete terms, what we offer to our clients. This is what this rigorous model provides.
