Pre-Course Information: LIPCC

Welcome to the Living Into Purpose Coaching Course (LIPCC)! I look forward to having you back at the Lodge very soon!

The materials below will take care of a few nuts and bolts items, provide some details that will be helpful in your planning, and outline the elements of pre-course work that will help us jump-start the course in January.

Please read my welcome letter which includes important logistical information, retreat details, and driving directions. Please review this soon to help in your planning.

Pre-Requisites

If you have concerns about meeting any of the prerequisites, please contact Doug asap.

  • completion of Parts I and II of the Presence-Based Coaching Course,
  • a request to participate from you, followed by acceptance into the course by Doug,
  • having read the entirety of The Mindful Coach and Presence-Based Coaching before arrival, and
  • having put what you learned into practice, as evidenced by completion of at least four coaching conversations, using Presence-Based Coaching methodology, with each of two different clients (eight total conversations.)

Dates

Initial retreat: January 9-12, 2012. Final retreat: June 18-21, 2012. For each retreat, we’ll begin at 9AM on the first day, and finish at 2PM on the last day. Please consider this really as a retreat; plan on early morning starts and evening sessions. While we'll take longish lunch breaks, it will not work well to visit friends in town or join in outside conference calls.

Conference calls for the entire course and Mid-Course Conference will be scheduled at the initial retreat; pod calls will be arranged by members.

Coordinating Arrival

The names and contact information for the entire group will be provided in a separate email. Feel free to contact others to coordinate shared ground transportation for the retreats.

Completing Payment

You have already put down a $500 deposit. By December 15, please complete your payment arrangements. You may choose between Plan A (full payment on Dec. 15,) or Plan B (a payment plan spread out until April.) The Plan B link will set up automatic recurring payments and you won’t have to take further action.

Course Reading

The Mindful Coach and Presence-Based Coaching are required reading before the course start. In addition, during the course, you will be expected to read at least two of the following books, and to post reflections on the community website. You can find brief descriptions of most of these books here.

Community Website

We will set up a community website at the beginning of January, which will provide a platform for conversations, resources, and requests and offers.

ICF Credits

Following completion of the course, you will receive 63.5 ICF credits, applicable towards initial certification or renewal at ACC, PCC, or MCC level. We will provide this documentation for you. There is no additional charge for ICF credits for LIPCC, and two audio reviews are included in the course.

Presence-Based Coaching® Retreat Discounts

Your LIPCC participation also brings you the benefit of participating in any PBC retreat held during your LIPCC course at the special rate of $500/retreat, space permitting. I encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to deepen your own learning by re-engaging the material from a new and richer understanding. Also, know that your presence will add tremendous value for new participants.

Pre-Course Work

Sometime before your arrival, do the following, in this sequence:

  • Ensure that you have read The Mindful Coach and Presence-Based Coaching, as well as completed the eight coaching conversations outlined in the pre-requisite sections.
  • Read the following four articles:
  • Conduct an initial interview with one other participant in the course. (You have been emailed your partner assignment. Please see this page for details, including a set of questions and the process for conducting the interview. We suggest making contact soon to set up the time/mechanics of the call. However, because of the distraction of the holidays, we strongly recommend scheduling your actual conversation for the first week in January as the New Year opens.
  • Review these narrative questions about purpose. On the first day of the January retreat, you will have about ten minutes in front of the class to speak, and embody, this current narrative, and to receive feedback and assessments. Spending some time with the questions in advance will prepare you both for the course and for this particular practice.

What to Bring:

  • Something meaningful to you, representing your sense of emerging purpose, to place on the altar during the retreat.
  • Slippers, if you wish, for in the Lodge.
  • A journal and pens. (Course materials will be in the form of loose-leaf binders.)
  • Art materials, camera, etc., if you wish.
  • Appropriate clothing, walking shoes, etc, for a range of outdoor conditions. (You can check our local weather outlook a couple of days before you travel to help in packing at http://tinyurl.com/bilweather)
Weather permitting, we will spend the third day of our January retreat doing presence work with horses. This will involve being outdoors or in unheated space for much of the day, and it can be very cold in the mountains in January. Please bring  a warm hat and mittens, and sturdy footgear/boots (but not steel-toed). If road conditions preclude travel to the horse location, we will do other activities at the Lodge.
In anticipation of this day, please bring:
  • Warm hat and gloves
  • Multiple layers of clothing, including fleece, a down coat or very warm outer layer
  • Water bottle
  • Boots, but NOT steel-toed boots (You must wear boots to work with the horses.)
  • Comfortable shoes for walking
  • Extra socks or slippers to wear (hoes and boots are not worn in the indoor meeting space)
  • Polar fleece blanket/throw (optional.)

Of course, please feel free to call or email any time with questions or feedback. I am delighted to have such a strong group shaping up, and look forward to seeing you in January!

Thanks,
